Friends of City Park will host a poster signing with local artist Grace Newburger who created the Magical City Park poster almost 18 years ago. The event will take place on Thursday, May 12, 2011, from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Parkview Terrace Room in the Timken Center (formerly the Casino Building). Posters signed and numbered will be sold for $40; unsigned posters will be sold for $20.
The poster, re-released by Friends of City Park late in 2010, depicts many beloved iconic images from City Park such as the Carousel, The Peristyle, the Hyam’s Children’s Fountain, Enrique Alferez sculptures, Storyland figures, Ancient oak trees, wildlife and more.
Artist Grace Newburger is a native of New Orleans who currently resides in Carriere, Ms. She holds a BA in History of Art from Newcomb College and she studied at the Academy of the Fine Arts in New Orleans.
A limited number of signed posters will be made available. Only 1,000 posters were reprinted. Complimentary wine and cheese will be served. Friends of City Park is a 501c3 nonprofit, fundraising arm of City Park. Friends was founded in 1979 and has donated millions to City Park for capital improvements.
