The leaves have not quite turned yet up here in the northeast U.S., but it is always lovely in that Chinese fifth season of late summer: lush trees everywhere accented by the goldenrod (and I do mean GOLDENrod), rivers dancing, skies that dramatically announce the end of the day in navy and deep gray cumulus clouds slashed with screaming pink. And then the full moon rises in all its golden glory ~
We have indeed been getting around. First up was the Fur Peace Ranch last weekend in southern Ohio. Great time was had by all. But if you could not make it, do not despair! Spencer will return next June for a double header with Country Joe McDonald. We’ll be getting you more details soon, but you can also stay in touch with Jorma Kaukonen’s ranch here: http://www.furpeaceranch.com/
Spencer & I then went on to the University of Maryland in Silver Spring to do a tag-team presentation to a music business class on how we operate. Great group there, and we look forward to an encore another time. Thanks to Professor Hugh!
Now it’s up to Springville, New York. Spencer plays a concert at the Springville Center for the Arts (http://springvillearts.org/sca/about/) this Saturday, September 17 at 7 pm. As it is Hank Williams’ birthday, you can be sure there will be a goodly number of songs from the Hillbilly Shakespeare songbook. Earlier in the afternoon from 3-5, Spencer will hold an acoustic guitar workshop. Do come!
And lastly this month, from September 22-24 we will be in Morehead, Kentucky, for the Cave Run Storytelling Festival. Spencer is excited to be on board as a storyteller – tell me, what’s your favorite of his stories? When I start a list, I have troubles stopping! For reservations and information: http://www.caverunstoryfest.org/
A touch of sad news here for those of you who were planning on coming to Saluda, North Carolina, for the October 1 show: it has been cancelled. However, you can still come to the Rooster’s Wife in Aberdeen, North Carolina, on October 2. Showtime is early at 6:45. To make your reservations and more information: http://www.theroosterswife.org/
Enjoy the gifts of autumn. I know we are~
