In 1856, the Daily Creole reported:“Resolved, That the Street Commissioner be and he is hereby authorized to cause lamps to be placed at the intersections of the following streets:
1 lamp at the corner of White Street and Bayou Road;
1 lamp at the corner of Gentilly Road and Grand Route Saint John;
1 lamp at the corner of Mulberry Street and Grand Route Saint John;
1 lamp at the corner of Encampment Street and Grand Route Saint John;
1 lamp at the corner of Mystery Street and Grand Route Saint John.
