CITY ANNOUNCES CHANGES TO BRAKE TAG PROGRAM

The City of New Orleans announced changes to City’s Motor Vehicle Inspection Program (Brake Tags), which are intended to increase convenience to the motoring public and increase efficiency in the administration of the program.

Earlier this year, the City Council passed comprehensive revisions to the City’s Motor Vehicle Inspection regulations which were proposed by the City’s Department of Safety and Permits.

These changes include:
Authorization of optional two-year inspection certificates, which are currently available for residents of other parishes with standard State inspection stickers; and clarification on the tier system for passenger vehicles, light commercial vehicles and heavy commercial vehicles.
Additionally, the City is implementing a new design and uniform color scheme for inspection stickers. The new stickers are circular with the year of expiration in the center in place of the month of expiration, and will feature month indicators to indicate expiration.

All inspection stickers for a given year will be of a uniform color, taking the place of the multiple colors issued in previous years to indicate inspection sticker type.

However, no inspection stickers expiring in January of 2016 will be considered delinquent until Jan. 31, 2016, regardless of the date indicated on the sticker.

Get a Car May 10th

May 7, 2012 by Charlie London

NEW ORLEANS, LA – On Thursday, May 10, 2012, the City of New Orleans Department of Public Works will hold its second abandoned vehicle auction for 2012.

The auction, located at Almonaster Auto Pound, 10200 Almonaster Avenue, will begin at 9 a.m. Vehicle preview day and buyer registration is Wednesday, May 9, 2012 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. but no one will be admitted after 3:30 p.m. for security reasons.

As in prior auctions, the buyer will pay a $50 administrative fee which gets the buyer a notarized title at time of payment. This feature has been extremely well received by the public as the buyers no longer have to take all of the documentation to the Division of Motor Vehicles to apply for a new title. This new process has proven that it saves the citizens time and streamlines their purchase.

The current auction will have 98 vehicles for sale, all of which have been discarded on neighborhood streets or left unclaimed by residents with excessive parking fines and fees.

ONLINE BIDDING
Introduced in March 2009, the City will continue use of its online bidding feature. Residents interested in online bidding need to register with Proxibid prior to the auction start time by visiting www.brownsauction.com. The online bidding feature allows residents to preview and pre-bid on any vehicle prior to the live auction, get vehicle information online by entering the vehicle information number (VIN), and bid on vehicles from anywhere in the world as the auction proceeds live from the Almonaster Auto Pound.

All prospective buyers must register before viewing. A refundable $50 fee is required to view and/or bid on any vehicle during the auction. The fee will be applied to any purchase made or refunded if no purchase is made.

Individuals interested in purchasing a car are encouraged to pre-register today and to arrive early on Thursday as many cars sell within the first few minutes of the auction.

QUICK FACTS
All vehicle information is currently on Brown’s Auction Web site, www.brownsauction.com. Per the terms of the contract, the available vehicle list includes the VIN, make, model, and lien holder information. Any auction-related questions should be directed to Brown’s Auction Company at (337) 457-4919.

Prior to the auction, attempts are made to contact the vehicle’s owner or lien holder before the vehicles are added to the auction list. Vehicle owners or lien holders that pay all fines and fees are able to retrieve their vehicles prior to the auction.

PURCHASING A VEHICLE
Cash or cashier’s check required
Payment must be received on the day of the auction. If payment is not received, the purchased vehicle will be placed on the list for the next scheduled auction, the buyer’s $50 deposit is forfeited and the bidder is barred from participation in future auctions.
A $50 administrative fee will be added for each purchased vehicle which gives the buyer a notarized title to that vehicle
City employees and relatives of City employees are forbidden from purchasing any vehicles at the auction.

Voodoo Parking

October 29, 2011 by Charlie London

The City of New Orleans has issued the following information on parking for the Voodoo Music Experience:

The City of New Orleans issued parking instructions and reminders in advance of the Voodoo Music Experience, to be held Friday, October 28 through Sunday, October 30, 2011, and which is expected to draw tens of thousands of attendees to City Park.

Event organizers have arranged for the following accommodations for parking:

· Parking is available for $20 per day at Delgado Community College in the parking lot at the corner of City Park Avenue and Marconi Drive. The lots will be open starting at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, and 9:00 a.m. on Sunday. Proceeds from parking will support Delgado student organizations.

· Parking is available inside City Park at designated areas for $15 per day at restricted locations, as directed by City Park officials. Attendees should be mindful that much of the park will be closed to vehicular traffic between Wisner Boulevard, City Park Avenue, Marconi Drive and Zachary Taylor Drive, adjacent to the I-610. Parking in City Park opens at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

· Parking is available along Marconi Drive and City Park Avenue as well.

Parking is NOT allowed on the neutral ground on Marconi Drive, nor is it allowed on the grounds that border Bayou St. John. The City will post extra signage along the bayou warning against parking on the perimeter of the waterway. If citizens choose to park on the street, pay close to attention to “No Parking” signs as the City will ticket and tow vehicles.

“We want to remind people to park in legal spaces and avoid unnecessary headaches,” said Deputy Mayor Cedric Grant. “We encourage people to be mindful of residents in the surrounding neighborhoods, and to be careful not to block driveways or park in other illegal spaces. It is the City’s intention to make every effort to keep people informed of where they can and cannot park, so they can enjoy all the great events New Orleans has to offer and not have their experience marred by receiving a parking ticket.”
