Bayou Clean Up/ Beach Sweep Sat March 21st 9am-11am

Join your friends and neighbors and help keep Bayou St John clean in the Bi-Annual Bayou Clean Up sponsored by Bayou Paddlesports.bayoucleanup2

Volunteers will paddle along Bayou St John to pick up debris and earn a few perks along the way.
FREE t-shirts and FREE kayak rentals will be given away to all volunteers.
So come out and help us keep Bayou St John beautiful for everyone to enjoy!

Boo on the Bayou

A barrage of boats, trick-or-treaters, and their parents will gather in Bayou St. John on Halloween evening for a first ever floating Halloween event…
“Boo on the Bayou”. The event is being produced solely by Bayou Kayaks.

Bayou Kayaks will host ‘Boo on the Bayou’ for wet and wild trick or treaters as a night paddle.

There will be a costume contest with prizes, candy for the kids, and a ghoulish paddle along the bayou on All Hallows’ Eve.

The first “Boo on the Bayou” takes place from 6 to 9 p.m.
on Oct. 31, 2014

The launch site is 1101 Florida Avenue at Bayou St. John. If you want to participate and don’t have something to float in you can rent a paddleboard or kayak from Bayou Kayaks at www.bayoukayaks.com.

BAYOU CLEANUP September 28th

Volunteers will meet at the Bayou Kayaks launch site at 1101 Florida Ave (near the LSU Dental School) at 9 a.m. on September 28th and collect debris until 11 a.m. Kayaks will be available for use on a first come first serve basis. Volunteers on foot are especially important as there are many items to be collected along the banks. Please join the Bayou Clean Up on Saturday, September 28th to keep Bayou St John beautiful.

Meet at 9 a.m. on September 28th at Bayou Kayaks’ Launch Site, 1101 Florida Ave
(on the bayou near the LSU Dental School).

** Clean up from a kayak (if you get there early) or clean up the banks & the bayou on foot.
** Food will be served to those helping with the clean-up. (grilled foods)
** T-shirts
** Receive a $10 off kayak rentals for helping!
** Be the FIRST to experience the SUP (stand-up paddleboards) that Bayou Kayaks will offer soon.
For those who want to stick around after the clean-up, take a spin on the board for up to 30 min for free!

Labor Day Regatta

Join the fun and paddle your kayak, canoe, SUP or pirogue in the 1st Annual Labor Day Regatta on Bayou St. John.

Win prizes and bragging rights in the various categories:
Single or Tandem Kayak
Single or Tandem Canoe
SUP (Paddle board)

$25 to enter

Start at Bayou Kayaks launch site at 1101 Florida Avenue in New Orleans, paddle to the Greek Church, back to the Magnolia Bridge (pedestrian bridge by Cabrini) and back to the start. First one in their category wins. Total course approx 6.5 miles.

All proceeds go towards funding the next Bayou Clean Up Sept. 15th. Help keep Bayou St John clean for everyone to enjoy.

Help Clean the Bayou this Saturday

WHEN: 9 am to 1 pm this Saturday, September 17th

Lake Pontchartrain Basin Foundation’s 2011 Beach Sweep is Saturday, Sept 17th! Lake Pontchartrain Basin Foundation’s 22nd annual Beach Sweep will be held Saturday, September 17th from 9am-noon followed by a thank-you picnic for registered volunteers. Visit www.saveourlake.org for more information.

Bayou Kayaks and Life City are teaming up to clean up Bayou St. John during the Annual Beach Sweep hosted by the Lake Pontchartrain Foundation.

Please meet at the Bayou Kayaks launch site, 1101-1175 block of Florida Ave, near the LSU Dental School. Get more info on the location and RSVP a kayak on bayoukayaks.com. And, be sure to register for the Beach Sweep by emailing joann@saveourlake.org (this gets you into the free picnic after the Beach Sweep on
Pontchartrain Beach).

Rhonda Ardoin started Bayou Kayaks this year to pursue her passion, provide a green service in the community, and help others take advantage of our surrounding water resources.

“My goal is to make a big impact on the community while leaving a small footprint on the environment,” says Ardoin.

Bayou Kayaks is committed to social and environmentally responsible practices. Not only does her day-to-day operations enforce a “leave no trace” policy, Ardoin is going above and beyond by organizing a free kayaking event to clean up the bayou this Saturday.

The Bayou Klean-Up help beautify the area, increase community involvement, allow businesses and customers to interact together, strengthen the image of the area’s small businesses, and create a sense of pride and accomplishment within the community. It’s a win-win for everyone! Also, there are prizes for the following categories:

1. Largest Group
2. Largest Business Group
3. Largest Non Business Group
4. Most trash picked up from individual
5. Largest item recovered from the bayou

Full Day $40 10:00 am – 5:00 pm
