Conrad says, “Ro and I moved from our 3000+ sq ft home earlier this year. We have been able to donate much stuff to Goodwill, friends and family. However, there remain boxes of stuff to go through, mostly of Ro’s Bristow family. The postcards were the property of her late father, Dr. Louis Bristow, who was the former head radiologist of Baptist Hospital. He was a collector of many things, and went on a 1928 expedition to the Mayan Yucatan, with Dr. Franz Blom, the famous Tulane Archeologist ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frans_Blom ).”

Many thanks to Conrad Abadie for allowing his postcard collection to be scanned and presented here.

Low Interest Home Loans

August 15, 2012 by Charlie London

HOMEBUYERS FINANCING AVAILABLE

· Finance Authority of New Orleans has new Single Family Mortgage Revenue Bond Program with interest rates as low as 3.25%.

· Compliments the City’s Soft Second Home Loan Program because many first mortgage loans are made at much higher interest rates.

· The low rate will allow more buyers to qualify for homes when they are also eligible for the Soft Seconds.

· But these low interest First Mortgage Home Loans aren’t limited to just first time homebuyers and they also have no household income limitations. The program will serve buyers who don’t qualify for the City’s Soft Second Program and will provide an opportunity to invest in New Orleans single family homes of up to $324,359 at this very low interest rate.

· Visit the Finance Authority website at www.financeauthority.org for more information.

The program can NOT be used to refinance.

Today’s POSTCARD from HOME is a bit unusual. The sender of the postcard described it as… “The newest thing in souvenir post cards which squares me financially but still leaves me hopelessly indebted in every other way.”

The crosses you see on the postcard held coins.

The Sunday Postcard from Home will be steering to a bit of a deviation from the local emphasis it’s had in the past.

President Warren G. Harding was born November 2. 1865 in Blooming Grove, Ohio. He was a member of the Ohio State Senate from 1900-1904, was Lt. Governor of Ohio from 1904-1906 and a United States Senator from 1915-1921. Inaugurated President of the United States March 4, 1921.

Dean Burridge would like to add:

“Walter L. Cohen of New Orleans, one of the first African-Americans to hold a national office was appointed by President Warren Harding as Comptroller of (U.S. ) Customs. At the time, the New York Times referred to the office as “one of the most lucrative federal offices” in the South. Later Cohen became the founder and president of the People’s Life Insurance Company in New Orleans, a large industrial company whose clients were African-Americans. Cohen was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church in New Orleans. He died in New Orleans and is interred here at St. Louis Cemetery III. The Walter L. Cohen Senior High School in Uptown is named in his honor.”
