Your chance is here to be part of the one of the largest public assistance events in the history of New Orleans. “Make a Move“, presented by the New Orleans Mission, debuts on Wednesday, October 12, from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Morial Convention Center. “Make a Move” is requesting volunteers and donations. The event will be open to the public free of charge.
“Make a Move“, is a free one-day, one-stop event that will offer struggling individuals from across Greater New Orleans the opportunity to get back on their feet through access to a broad range of services, including medical check-ups, eye screenings, foot care, legal services, grooming, employment assistance, food, toiletries and more. “Make a Move” is based upon Project Homeless Connect events that have proven remarkably successful in major cities across the nation.
A variety of volunteer positions are available the day of the event. If you have a passion for helping others or doing good and want to volunteer your time, contact Reid Stone, Event Coordinator, at (504) 451-4282 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
The goal of “Make a Move” is to provide clothing, supplies, services like medical care, substance abuse and mental health counseling, and housing or shelter to those struggling individuals and families who are homeless or on the brink of homelessness. It has been estimated between 17,000 and 19,000 people experience some form homelessness in New Orleans.
The New Orleans Mission, in conjunction with the HERO|farm marketing agency, is coordinating “Make a Move” and are seeking partners, individual volunteers and donations to help with the event. Among others, skilled volunteers are being sought to provide the following: mental health, domestic abuse and substance abuse counseling; eye exams and eyeglasses; employment services; benefits assistance; legal assistance; wheelchair repair; massage and foot care; and educational classes.
Arrangements to volunteer or donate services can be made by calling (504) 451-4282. You may also visit www.NewOrleansMission.org for more information.
