Liberty’s Kitchen is a social enterprise dedicated to transforming the lives of vulnerable New Orleans youth. Liberty’s Kitchen provides a path to bright and healthy futures through employability and life skills training and by providing freshly prepared, nutritious meals to school children.

Liberty’s Kitchen helps young people access futures that are healthy and sustainable, enabling them to achieve personal and economic independence in adulthood.

Liberty’s Kitchen’s Youth Development Program provides disconnected youth with workforce and life skills training to become employed and self-sufficient. This program addresses the many issues that create barriers to self-sufficiency with wrap-around support including health care, mental health, housing, GED completion, parenting issues, and financial literacy.

Through their School Nutrition Program, Liberty’s Kitchen provides undernourished school children with healthy, scratch-made meals prepared fresh onsite at their schools. By ensuring that low-income students have access to better nutrition and nutrition education in school, Liberty’s Kitchen contributes to the fight to end the epidemic of childhood obesity and increase youth achievement.

Liberty’s Kitchen is part of the ReFresh Project – a groundbreaking “Fresh Food Hub” with an urban Whole Foods Market, Tulane University, and others – which pursues innovative strategies to achieve social impact through food.

GRAND reOPENING

Join Liberty’s Kitchen to celebrate our expansion to the ReFresh Project!

FOOD, FUN, & FESTIVITIES
Tuesday, August 26 at 9:00 am
at our new ReFresh home
300 North Broad Street

Light refreshments and guided tours following the opening celebration.

After a six month construction process, Liberty’s Kitchen has reopened to the public at its new 10,000 square foot location in the ReFresh Project, a “fresh food hub” anchored by Whole Foods Market at 300 N. Broad Street.

The expanded space will enable the organization to double its Youth Development and School Nutrition programs’ capacities within three years. This opportunity translates to 200 Liberty’s Kitchen students per year and up to 3,500 students served daily with healthy meals, totaling more than 1.4 million meals per year!

The new Liberty’s Kitchen facility features a state of the art Emeril Lagasse Foundation Teaching Kitchen, classroom, office space, and retail café and coffee shop serving Starbucks coffee.

Initial hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., featuring breakfast pastries, bagels and full lunch menu with salads, sandwiches, burgers, and traditional New Orleans fare.

Private parties of 10 to 20 can be accommodated for breakfast, lunch, or dinner events. A full catering service is also available for offsite events.

Liberty’s Kitchen’s expansion into the ReFresh Project will provide additional opportunities to enhance and sustain its programs, including groundbreaking partnerships with tenants Whole Foods Market and Tulane University’s Goldring Center for Culinary Medicine.

At 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, Liberty’s Kitchen staff and students invite the community to celebrate a grand opening with them in the ReFresh parking lot. Liberty’s Kitchen’s expansion is made possible with leadership support from Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Foundation, Emeril Lagasse Foundation, Fox Family Foundation, Arena Energy Foundation, Caesars Foundation, Libby Dufour Fund, RosaMary Foundation, Ella West Freeman Foundation, Frischhertz Electric Company, Woodward Design+Build, Domain Companies, Selley Foundation, Mrs. E.M. Back Away from the Drive-Thru

September 24, 2011 by admin

Those drive-thru places offer quick food but at what cost? Your health, your sanity?

Everyone knows that stuff isn’t good for you and barking your order through a speaker can’t be good for for your mental health. Oh, but the price is cheap and it’s quick.

Consider this, you can have food prepared by a chef for the same or less cost in an environment that will relax your mind and regenerate your spirit. And, you’ll be helping a non-profit that helps others.

Where is this place you ask? At 422 1/2 South Broad. It’s called Liberty’s Kitchen and is a NON-profit restaurant that provides jobs for at-risk youth. The food is prepared by Chef Reggie Davis and the price is right.

The downside? You have to go in and sit down. You get your food prepared and served by people who actually care about what you are eating, and you might spend a total of thirty minutes enjoying your meal. (more if you partake of the free wireless internet)

So, back away from the drive-thru and head on over to Liberty’s Kitchen at 422 South Broad near Tulane Avenue. Your physical and mental health will thank you.

Liberty’s Kitchen Café and Coffee House – A Product with a Purpose

The retail establishment at 422½ South Broad offers an espresso bar serving Starbucks® coffee and espresso beverages as well as a full service kitchen serving breakfast and lunch – all giving the students an opportunity to learn basic barista and culinary skills in a real life setting. Everything at Liberty’s Kitchen is made “from scratch” – from the pastries to salad dressings to soups and stocks. Not only does this give customers a quality dining experience, but Chef Reggie Davis has designed the menu with an eye for training opportunities.
