We also support a growing community of young families. FSJNA continues to upgrade Desmare playground and hosts a delightful safe trick-or-treating event “Bounty on the Bayou” for our children annually. For all residents, we create and maintain spaces to gather, run, walk, bike, play, or simply enjoy the setting sun over Bayou St. John.

The association membership includes homeowners, renters and local businesses. Organized in 1977, we are a 501(C)3 nonprofit organization whose mission is to help improve quality of life in this historic, beautiful, walkable and bikeable community. The association is governed by a membership-elected Board, and our monthly meetings are open to all residents.

If you are not a member already, please consider joining FSJNA today. Dues help maintain and support our neighborhood, our people, and our wonderful quality of life. All are welcome!

About FSJNA

Faubourg St. John Neighborhood Association (FSJNA) organization is the steward of, and advocate for, the neighborhoods around the Bayou St. John area. We help maintain the green spaces in our neighborhood, through volunteer efforts and fundraising. We engage on zoning matters, to keep the neighborhood livable for residents while supporting good local businesses. We help keep the neighborhood safe by maintaining close collaboration with the NOPD 1st District, including a “Feed the 1st” campaign during Mardi Gras and supporting their needs and community work.

FSJNA supports our neighborhood commercial hub, a dynamic and welcoming mix of local businesses that contribute to the quality of life of our residents.

The Neighborhood

Today, the neighborhood is home to more than 4,000 residents. Its grand Esplanade Avenue, historic architecture, mature live oaks, and bounteous green space, combined with a healthy mix of small businesses, places of worship, restaurants, and entertainment venues contribute to the neighborhood’s walkability. The Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots brings horse racing and other entertainment to the neighborhood, as well as hosting the annual New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival.

Just across the bayou, New Orleans City Park offers a host of family-friendly activities, including the New Orleans Museum of Art, the Sydney and Walda Besthoff Sculpture Garden, Botanical Garden, Storyland, Carousel Gardens and more. Faubourg St. John is also within easy walking or bike riding distance of the historic Treme and French Quarter neighborhoods, and a mere streetcar or bus ride to the Garden District or Lake Pontchartrain.

We who live in our beautiful Faubourg are not shy about saying it is one of the best neighborhoods in New Orleans!
