Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day at the Deutsches Haus

On the 10th of March, the Sunday Before St. Patrick’s Day, Deutsches Haus will celebrate Ireland’s Patron Saint as they do in the small villages in the Old Country: with a Céilí (a gathering). We will have Celtic musicians, Irish dancers, bagpipers, traditional Irish food (plus nuggets and fries for the kids) for sale, and other family-oriented activities.

No drunks in white tuxedos, no Mardi Gras music or beads and no green beer; we have Guinness on tap as well as twenty other great European biers.

The doors open at 11am. An opening ceremony starts at noon with a priest’s blessing in Gaelic, singing of the Irish National Anthem, raising of the Republic Flag, bagpipers; then a succession of Irish dancers, musicians, sing-alongs and ballad singers until 4:30pm

This event is FREE, kid & pet friendly, and open to everyone Irish, or wish they were!

And, for your peace of mind (and car windows), we have plenty of free, off-street, and police patrolled parking inside our fenced and gated lot during events.

FSJNA'S FEED THE 1st - our 14th year!

WHAT WE DO:

From Saturday Feb 10th thru Fat Tuesday we sponsor and serve at the 1st district NOPD station:

3 hot and plentiful breakfasts, 2 hot lunches, 3 nights of pizza and salad, 4 days of abundant grab and go snacks, fruit and coffee

We serve the 62 1st District Officers plus the 20+ Sheriffs and State Police that are assigned to 1st district parade detail and assist in protecting our district.

These men and women are exhausted after working 12 -16 hour shifts throughout carnival. It is great to see the officers perk up with a big plate of breakfast or a hot lunch and to have the opportunity to grab a good quality snack to have later on the parade route or shift. We are always amazed at their good spirits and resilience and their diligence in keeping everyone safe throughout the Carnival week. We are delighted to serve them all!

We do this with a lot of support from Deutsches Haus volunteers and donations from Parkway, the Fair Grounds, Blue Oak and our neighborhood businesses and members!

Please consider making a donation this year--donations of money, goods and your time really help!

  • You could sponsor one night of Pizza and salads for the 3 night shifts ($225)

  • Like to bake or cook? Send us something to serve at lunch or breakfast

  • ANY amount is appreciated!

Your tax deductible donations issued to FSJNA can be mailed to P. O. Box 19101, New Orleans, LA 70179 or dropped off to 3301 Grand Route St John or sent via Venmo to @FaubourgStJohn. Just note: for feed the 1st.

Have any questions or would like additional information? Have any ideas? to contact us: EVENTS@FSJNA.ORG
